The Role of the Governing Body

The Governing Body at Pudsey Lowtown Primary School aim to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for educational and financial performance.

Governing bodies have three statutory core functions:

  •  Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and stragetic direction;
  • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and it's pupils, and the performance management of staff;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure the it's money is well spent.

The Governing Body has a strategic and supportive role and we work in close partnership with the Headteacher, who is responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of the school and staff. Our aim is to provide a stragetic view, to ensure accountability and to be a critical but supportive friend to the school.

Full Governing Body meetrings and additional sub-committee meetings are held at least once each term.

The Governing Body at the school currently includes:

  • The Headteacher
  • One staff member
  • One Governor appointed by the Local Authority
  • Two parent governors
  • Nine co-opted governors

Parent and co-opted governors are appointed by the Governing Body and are people who, in the opinion of the Governing Body, have the skills required to contribute to the effective governance and success of the school.

Governors are volunteers and do not get paid for being governors.
