Lowtown wins Gold for the RHS Yorkshire In Bloom Young Peoples Award
At the end of last term, Lowtown School welcomed the Chairman of Yorkshire In Bloom who came to judge our school gardens and grounds. Our gardening representatives from Year 4 (now in Year 5) Tilly, Bethany, Macie, Evie, Kirk,Libby and Ben B showcased our school. The children showed our visitor our woodland , vegetable garden, mini orchard and planted areas and gave a very knowledgeable account of our gardening initiatives as well as our composting, harvesting and litter picking procedures and how well we use the grounds for outside learning.
The judge was so impressed that school has been awarded a Gold Medal for the RHS Yorkshire In Bloom Young Peoples Award (Harrogate Flower Show sponsored award) and we were also the winner of this category.
The Chairman of Yorkshire in Bloom visited school today to personally present the award at our school assembly.
We are very proud of this achievement as every child in the school uses the school grounds as a learning resource and therefore the whole school community has contributed to this achievement.
A big thank you goes to Mrs Kirk-Dooley our School gardener for all of her hard work and Mrs Laycock our volunteer gardener who works on our grounds and gardens every Wednesday morning for her commitment.
Well done Lowtown gardeners!
